Haunt: Brothers Enemies

output of the first volume library Haunt . The result of the association between McFarlane Kirkman and it is up to our expectations?

Almost everything between the brothers Kilgore. One is a priest, the other secret agent. One is brown, the other blond. And above all, one is alive, the other dead.
Daniel is still reeling from the disappearance of his brother when he realizes he can see and even talk to him. More troubling still, in situations of danger, when Kurt, in its spectral form, is partnering with Daniel, they then give birth to a strange creature with extraordinary powers.
situations of danger precisely, it will not fail because an organization is looking for the notebook of a scientist killed by Kurt. To get hold of it, she does not hesitate to attack his family. Daniel and his brother of ectoplasm will therefore have to team up to save the woman they include both have loved.
Cohabitation is not easy, because of liability between the two men but also because their merger is likely to have effects, including physical, unforeseen and unpleasant ...

We already had the opportunity to speak at Haunt the preview and the first episodes Newsstand (episodes # 1 and # 2 ). The release of this album provides a general overview and to get a clearer idea of the series.
Recall that the concept is Todd McFarlane (the latter also dealing with the inking and some covers), screenplay by Robert Kirkman (Walking Dead , Invincible , Marvel Zombies , The Astounding Wolf -Man), cutting and penciled Greg Capullo and finally finalizing drawings Ryan Ottley .
The original idea has much in common with Spawn: the guy who comes back from beyond the symbiotic suit, the wife in danger or even the profession of the deceased by example. Even graphically Haunt is still a lot to think about his cousin hell. That said, his look is no less successful so far.
The "operation" of (or) character (s) deviates by cons a little off the beaten path. Daniel can see his brother, speak well, but when it touches or enters fully into it (say it like this, it sounds disgusting right?) Ectoplasmic material escapes from the nose and mouth for Daniel completely cover his body. Yes, somehow, he "throws" his costume, which is actually his brother. Imagine the thing in reality:
- Regis But finally, it is a scarf that you sort through your nose!?
- Yes, but do not worry, it's Frank, my brother died in appalling circumstances. He also serves as my coat now.
There's still little chance that invites you to a dinner after such a blow.
short, once the conversion is completed, the two brothers remain conscious and therefore coexist within the same body. They may even talk about elsewhere. All this sounds absurd, but even if I do not care nicely, it works reasonably well.

Basically we're facing a story of espionage, violent enough (or bloody) , laced fantasy. Authors flinguent, cut and chop blithely, which therefore reserve the work to an informed public. Especially since some scenes are really poignant. The most disturbing thing is probably that little boy, terribly mutilated following experiments, we see play, looking sad, with a figurine. And that is where we realize that sometimes the details are very important. For without the presence of the toy, there was a "monster" which could be vaguely pity by making a little grimace of disgust, but here in return for his humanity (and his young age) through a simple game, the image is even more striking and dramatic.
addition to hemoglobin and action, these episodes are also interested in stories of the heart (and ass, the two often go together) of siblings. The fact is that female characters are quite numerous and brave Kurt, before moving to the left arm, had a visibly busy love life.

The VF is published by Delcourt. Hardcover and glossy.
bonus level, one finds a sketchbook of three pages and an afterword by Kirkman. It's a little light compared to what we had been able to find in magazines booth, not only because it is previously published material, but mostly because of missing items that were present in the preview. Ultimately, for new readers, it might have been interesting to add the portrait of McFarlane (4 pages) appeared in Chronicles of Spawn # 27 (especially since the public library is generally less knowledgeable than the faithful of the kiosk). But hey, at least there's a little something extra, that's not the case with all publishers.

A series violent, well done, but not remarkable for its originality.
Even if this first arc is readable without displeasure, he basically does not want to jump on the sequel.
