Superman: Secret Origin

It remains the theme of origins with Superman: Secret Origins .

Little Clark is not a child like any other. When playing football, he sometimes hurt, although unintentionally, his comrades. When a girl kisses him and he feels a strong emotion, the heat from his eyes set fire to a banner. And when it blows a little too hard on her birthday cake, it freezes!
These amazing changes taking place in him because he comes from a distant world. And, although he ardently wished, it is simply not human.
It is stronger and faster than a man. But fortunately for humanity, it is also wiser than most people of his adoptive planet.
His name is Superman. It is the first of Super-Heroes.

Special origins so today because the X-Men, are addressed to Kal-El himself. This time , the scenario is the work of Geoff Johns ( Blackest Night , Flash: Rebirth , Green Lantern Corps: Recharge , Green Lantern: The Sinestro Corps War ), "the" writer of DC, also named the year Last Chief Creative Officer. The graphical part was left to the care of Gary Frank ( Midnight Nation , Supreme Power , Superman: New Krypton ). Visually, it's clean, very nice very often, the artist offers us some very nice full page in the - expected - key scenes.
The narrative is divided into six chapters, which are discovered by the first half. The first part shows a very young Clark, discovering his powers and being confronted to his "difference". We later find a little time travel after a meeting with the Legion of Super-Heroes, perhaps the least interesting part. The final part attempts to follow in the footsteps of Clark Kent, adult and clumsy, when it came to Metropolis and his first day at the Daily Planet.

Overall, this return to beginnings of the man of steel is controlled and very pleasant to read . Johns goes through the chokepoints of the myth (including Lex Luthor, Lois Lane ...) while distilling small touches of humor (The discovery of the mummy costume made of Supes) or emotion (the splash page near the cornfield with his adoptive father: simple but very effective).
This rereading of the origins of Superman (unlike some episodes X-Men Origins ) fulfills its role perfectly to provide a complete picture of the character to educate novices while providing right time to more experienced players. It is certain that the number of plates, in this case, greatly facilitates things, but the talent of Johns must be certainly a good deal too.
And even if that great fool, wearing his underpants over his pants (Supes eh, not Johns, finally, Johns I dunno actually, I do not know his preferences slibard) , is not my favorite character, I must admit that it is easily embed into his world when both highlighted (this was already the case for the very poetic For All Seasons with another talented tandem flying).

Classic but not too cheap, accessible and very good.
Ideal for
start looking at the big fellow.

ps: that's it for today but I'll meet you very soon (probably Sunday) for two other chronic X-Women by Manara and a graphic novel ( and erotic) by Dave McKean. Yes, the day after "origins", it will be a special "ass". It is a pleasant change ... O)
