How To Uninstall Chameleon

The Seal of Ran by Paul Kearney

Here is a book I received through partnership Livraddict. I, who no longer had participated for months, I have a crush on a fantasy novel in tantalizing summary, despite the fact that 'This is the first volume of a series ("Beggars of the Sea") during the writing and translation. Result: I have a new series on my wish-list ... But let me tell you in order.

Abstract:

In a world abandoned by its creator once existed a very ancient breed, "those before," endowed with powers that mankind can hardly certain imaginer.Selon legends, they were the last of the angels. Others say they were demons. Rol
Cortishane grew up in a small isolated fishing village without knowing what was in the right place in this world. But the blood of that race has long been forgotten in his veins and will decide his fate. Marked with the seal of Ran, accused of witchcraft and black magic, Rol must flee his village and seek refuge in the Tower of Michal Psellus mage, a dark and scary character that reigns supreme.

My opinion:
As in many fantasy novel, the story begins with a passage incomprehensible. It speaks of legend, races, gods. ; From the first pages, the reader is in the mood for the life of the little Rol, a kid who lives outside of any community with a small artificial family. A rural and maritime settles naturally in a time like unidentified the seventeenth century on foreign soil but not particularly original.

But from the second chapter, adventure racing. Rol teenager was driven from his home, forced to take refuge in a barbarian city, with a man as strange as cruel. The first part of this frame wraps around the heart of the injustice of a lawless civilization. It's tough, violent, and mysterious too. It was from there that I really started to hang, despite (or perhaps because of) the injustice and darkness of the plot. Characters who inhabit it are well described, but mostly keep large areas of shadow. It's pretty frustrating and sometimes I felt that some were not consistent in their behavior, but as and when the story evolves it seems they still have much to reveal.

The second part, which occupies the second half of the book is quite different. It is a continuation of the first, but this time the adventure takes place on a very particular: on seas. And that part, I totally devoured in one evening. The further I went, the less I could get.

For the maritime adventures of Rol are simply breathtaking. Either the author is an experienced sailor and passionate, he is documented in great style. He masterfully revives the passion navigation those who explored the seas in the most beautiful ships, at a time when a sailor was a profession of faith. The vocabulary is very accurate and a lot of technical words to me are largely passed over their heads, but they Part of the charm of the recovery, and they do not prevent you follow the smallest adventures.

For there, the adventures! The whole second half is full of surprises and adventures more thrilling. Several passages literally me breath! I was transported to the heart of a struggle against the storm, the ship construction and a more realistic collision pirate in a movie. I dare not tell you too much not to spoil the surprise, but in my case, I was simply swept away, and it is a rare but delicious feeling.

Finally, the only big flaw of this novel is that the second part has not been translated yet - I dare not try their luck in VO due to nautical terms - and that Subsequent episodes have not (yet) found a publisher. But they are already in my wishlist and I would advise you most warmly as: whether you like fantasy, navy or simply adventure, go for it.

short, I do not know if I have to say thank you to Livraddict and pocket book to have instilled in me a new addiction ... But if, because it's so good!
